Preparation Guide for Installation

This guide provides a visual insight to the various stages of the installation.  Although the installation is a simple process, it is critical that careful preparation is made and these steps are followed correctly.

1. Prepare hull surface  - using an 80 grit paper or orbital sander, prepare a smooth flat surface removing any gel wash coat to expose the laminate.  For sandwich and cored hulls, please refer to the guide listed in this installation section. (click here)

2.  Sand mounting ring - using an 80 grit paper, abrade the face of the mounting ring.

3.  Apply vaseline to ring threads - apply a little vaseline around the threads to allow any excess epoxy to be easily removed.

4.  Apply epoxy resin to ring flange - spread a layer of epoxy onto the flange being careful not to get any onto the inside of the ring.

5.  Bond the ring to the hull - Locate the ring onto the cleaned area prepared on the hull and press down evenly and firmly.  Remove any excess epoxy that may be present inside the ring area, a small flat screw driver is a suitable tool for easy removal.

6.  Secure ring - Apply some tape to hold the ring firmly in position and allow to cure.

Ring - taped down

7.  Check area inside of ring - Once the epoxy has cured, check area inside of ring for any debris or excess epoxy.  The transducer must be able to turn down all the way and make 100% face contact with the hull.

Ring - cured

8.  Apply silicone grease to transducer face - apply a thin layer of the supplied silicone grease, it is to form a gasket which will fill any minor voids, therefore between 1.0 and 2.0mm is sufficient.

 9.  Placing transducer - with all the cable in one hand, carefully screw in the transducer until it sits firmly in contact with the hull.  After one hour it may be necessary just to re-tighten a little more (being carefull not to over-tighten) when the grease has settled and any air expelled.

Transducer - coiled cable

10.  Fit the control box - remove the cover, drill the four holes at each corner and fix to a bulkhead using self tapping screws.

11.  Replace the cover - replace the cover as shown.

12.  Connecting up - Connect the power cables accordingly to the Ultra model purchased.  Connect the transducer cable and secure all cables.

13.  Switching on for first time - switch on the power, check the green and red LED status lights are working.  You will also be able to hear a low level clicking sound from the transducer(s).
