Power BoatsUltra 10 Positioning

In making the decision as to which unit is correct for your particular boat, there are just a few considerations as follows. The waterline length and the underwater running gear (i.e. props/shafts/trim tabs/rudders) are the determining factors... so  if your boat has a waterline length of up to 10 metres you will choose the Ultra 10 system, which has one transducer and will be positioned in the area of the sterngear , in between and above, where the shaft exits the hull and the propeller is positioned (as shown on the diagrams). This will protect your hull and also afford protection to your running gear. If you have twin shaft drives, the unit will be positioned in between the drives (not necessarily centrally) , but as reasonably near the centreline as possible. (Installation manual explains fully).

Ultra 20 positioningIf you have sterndrives, a position nearer the transom is better. In both cases the transducer will be as near the centreline as possible. If your waterline length is over 10 metres but under 20 metres then you will choose the Ultra 20 system, which has 2 transducers. All the same rules apply, but the additional transducer will be positioned approximately one third of the way back from the bow of the boat... This will help to keep the forward part of the hull and any bowthrusters or additional underwater gear clean. Once again the diagrams will show you the area for positioning the transducers.

For boats over 20 metres,we simply add additional units, but of course there are a number of other considerations once you start to get to this size of boat. As the boat gets longer it also becomes wider and the underwater area and running gear becomes greater,  so the considerations for where to position the transducers is a bit more critical... it is for this reason that we would prefer you contact us for the correct advice....although as a rule of thumb, you can presume that a 25 metre boat would require 2 x Ultra 20 systems.

General
The system works by resonating sound waves through the hull, so because the transducers are fixed to the hull, it will naturally sound through all of the hull. But it also works in a 180 degree arc under and around the transducer face, which is why correct positioning is so important and this is how it protects the underwater gear that is not directly attached to the hull (only through a series of seals).

Suitable for all  types of hull materials except wood.

Other Considerations
There are other considerations which should be taken into account when selecting the Ultra system for your boat.
