“Why Knot”, a Van der Stat design aluminium yacht was fitted with the Ultrasonic system on 25th May 2006. The boat was sailed from Holland and is now based in Empuriabrava (Spain). During the time since fitting the system “Why Knot” has made several long journeys and the Ultrasonic antifouling system was activated about 50% of the time. Up until the 15th June there has been no growth on the underside of the hull
On 23 June with a water temperature of 23 degrees celsius and in strong sunlight a green mucus layer formed on the hull. The Ultrasonic antifouling transducer was then activated fulltime and by the 25 June the green mucus layer (biofilm) had almost disappeared.
A boat moored next to “Why Knot” from 25th June until 10th July developed growth of shell animals and algae but the hull of “Why Knot” remains totally clear. Even the paddle wheel of the speedometer no longer needs clearing when, previously this was required regularly. The situation remained the same right through to September clearly showing the effectiveness of the Ultrasonic antifouling system.
